FedEx Express has submitted a preliminary site plan for the "Hercules" project, a five-story small package sort center measuring 1.6 million square feet at its World Hub at Memphis International Airport.[1] The facility will be located south of the recently opened automated sorting building and connected via an elevated bridge. It will replace an existing structure and include new utilities and employee parking.

Project engineer GFT of California filed the administrative site plan review application with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development. A full building design is scheduled for submission in June 2026.[2] The expansion aims to enhance e-commerce sorting capacity at FedEx's primary hub.

Target Retail Project

In related commercial permitting activity, an application was filed for a new 127,735-square-foot Target store, including CVS and Starbucks outlets, at 8450 Wilkinsville Road in Millington. Steve Meeks of SM Wilson submitted the application on behalf of property owner TM Farms Holdings LLC.[3] This project underscores retail sector growth.

Another filing covers a new one-story pre-engineered metal building for the Memphis Police Department's fleet maintenance at 4233 S. Third St., applied for by Daily Design Group on behalf of the City of Memphis.[3]

FedEx, a cornerstone logistics firm, stands to benefit significantly from the hub expansion, bolstering its operational efficiency. Visit FedEx website, careers page, and partners page.
